During the first treatment at Pittsburgh Community Acupuncture, there will be a series of paper work that needs to be filled out, followed by a private consultation that consists of pulse reading, tongue examination, and simple questioning. At Pittsburgh Community Acupuncture, we view every patient differently, thus depending on the person, the duration of consultation varies; however, it's safe to expect the first treatment to take an hour and all following to take about a half an hour.
Like stated before, treatments varies from patient to patient, thus the appropriate attire varies as well. In many cases, vital acupuncture points (such as the "Front-Mu") are located on the abdomen, chest, as well as lower extremities, thus it is best for patients to bring a pair of boxers and women to also wear a front closure bra.
The pain of a needle insertion varies. Typically, most patients claim that on certain areas (mostly on the extremities) the pain feels something in between a mosquito bite and a bee sting. Nevertheless, most patients don't even realize the needle after a couple minutes or even during the needle insertion.
