Tyler Nguyen Phan comes from five generation lineage in Traditional
Vietnamese Medicine. As a kid, Tyler was always intrigued with
traditional medicine, from his fascination with Qigong/Neigong to his
reverence for the French-Vietnamese physician-scholar Dr. Nguyen Van
Nghi for Dr. Van Nghi's legacy of "One Medicine" has always been an
inspiration to Tyler. With Dr. Van Nghi's vision of uniting the worlds
of Western Allopathic medicine and the esoteric world of Eastern
energetic medicine, the pursuit of understanding medicine in its
totality is only a few steps away.
Tyler also spent time through the University of Pittsburgh system,
where he focused on philosophy and Asian cultures. In adjunction with
his time in the university system, he continued to study the legacy of
Dr. Nguyen Van Nghi and traditional medicine, leading him to enroll at
Jung Tao School of Classical Chinese Medicine graduate program in Sugar
Grove, North Carolina, focusing primarily on the classical text,
Huangdi Neijing as well as the teachings of Dr. Nguyen Van Nghi.
During his Masters training at Jung Tao School of Classical Chinese
Medicine, Tyler was an intern in the Kingdom of Bhutan at the Institute
of Traditional Medicine Services in Thimphu as well as Chua Tuong Quang
-National Hospital of Traditional Medicine in Ho Chi Minh City,
Vietnam, where he saw acupuncture as the primary modality of health
care. With his experience working at the clinics, Tyler realized that
acupuncture needs to be accessible to the people and by creating a
sliding-scale community clinic, people can have access to the top
quality care that he has seen in the clinics in Bhutan and Vietnam.
Currently, Tyler is a licensed acupuncturist in the State of
Pennsylvania and Maryland as well as a National Acupuncture Detox
Specialist. In his spare time, Tyler continues to practice various
forms Qigong and Neigong techniques as well as the Indian breathing art
of Pranayama taught by Swami Ramdev and B.K.S. Iyengar. Also, He
continues to study classical medical texts throughout Asia, striving
for the efficacy of acupuncture to the people and continue in the
legacy of "One Medicine".
